Fish scent

Fischtüfte ( Mecklenburg for "fish potatoes") is a simple dish of Mecklenburg cuisine made from mashed potatoes , a simplified form of bechamel sauce and possibly ham or bacon . Because the sauce is usually served with fish, the dish probably got its name, even though it does not contain fish.

For preparation, boiled potatoes are mashed or cut into small cubes, mixed with a sauce made of water, flour , milk , parsley , bay leaf , salt and pepper and fried cubes of smoked ham or bacon are poured over it.
