Fish (cryptology)
Fish (also written: FISH ) was the Allied code name for encrypted telex connections of the German Wehrmacht during World War II . Mainly three systems were distinguished:
- Tunny (German: " Thunfisch ") - the key addition SZ42 from Lorenz AG , whose messagescould be deciphered in Bletchley Park with the help of the Colossus .
- Sturgeon (German: " Stör ") - the secret writer T52 from Siemens & Halske , which could also be broken , but did not contain many messages.
- Thrasher (German: " Drescher ") - the Siemens T43 teleprinter, which implemented the unbreakable one-time pad method.

In addition, there were other fish names that the British codebreaker Bill Tutte (1917–2002) remembered, such as Bream (" Brasse "), Herring (" Hering ") and Mackerel (" Mackerel "). However, these were not independent systems, but the English code names of German radio links used in Bletchley Park (BP), all of which were operated with Tunny (Lorenz key addition).
