Fisher was an American manufacturer of hi-fi equipment from New York and is considered one of the pioneers of hi-fi .

history

The company was founded in 1945 as Fisher Radio Corporation by Avery Fisher in New York. At first they only produced tube amplifiers. In 1969 Avery Fisher sold his company to the Emerson Electric Company .

In Germany the loudspeaker manufacturer Elac took over the distribution of Fisher devices from 1963. In 1975 the company was taken over by Sanyo . With the takeover, production in the USA also ended. From the trade names used The Fisher was The deleted. The devices have now been given additional names such as Studio Standard or Professional by Fisher . After the establishment of the Fisher-Hifi Europe headquarters in 1977, the collaboration with Elac ended.

The product range was gradually expanded under Sanyo to include car radios , televisions , DVD players , mobile audio devices and air conditioning systems. Radio recorders and portable cassette players were already in the prospectus in 1981 .

In 1997/98, with the merger of the European sales companies, the name was changed to Sanyo Fisher Vertriebs GmbH , based in Munich. Fisher has been part of Panasonic since 2010 .

The Fisher brand name is no longer used in Europe. Some inexpensive stereo systems are still sold in the USA.

Trivia

In the 1962 catalog, the company advertises with a 25th anniversary. In the prospectus from 1977, however, 1937, the founding year of Avery's first company Philharmonic Radio, is given and thus the 40th birthday is celebrated.
