Fistularia corneta is a marine fish from the family of the flute fish (Fistulariidae), which occurs near the coast in the eastern Pacific from the west coast of Baja California and the Gulf of California to Peru as well as on numerous offshore islands.
features
The very slim fish can reach a maximum length of 1.06 meters. They are orange to reddish in color on the back and brownish or black spots, on the belly they are lighter. The dorsal and anal fins have orange roots. The central long, thread-like element of the forked caudal fin is dark. The number of vertebrae is 75 or 76. The short, far back dorsal fin is supported by 17 to 20 fin rays. In the anal fin there are 16 to 19. The number of Branchiostegal rays is five. Rows of spines lying in the skin are easy to see, but individual spines can be difficult to see.
Fistularia corneta lives below a water depth of 30 meters on the central Pacific coast of the American double continent and on offshore islands above rocky subsoil. It feeds mainly on small fish.
