The Five Mile Point Lighthouse is a Grade II listed lighthouse in New Haven , Connecticut .

It has an octagonal floor plan, is made of reddish brown sandstone and was put into operation in 1845. The two-and-a-half-story house of the lighthouse keeper with a gable roof and a rear wing is located about 10 m to the east . This brick-built building dates back to 1812 and was part of the predecessor of the Five Mile Point Lighthouse . The nearly 25 m high lighthouse marked the eastern part of the transition from Long Island Sound to the port of New Haven. It was shut down in 1877 when the Southwest Ledge Light took over.

On August 1, 1990, the Five Mile Point Lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a monument .
