The Fjarðarheiði is a plateau in eastern Iceland .

Geography and traffic

The Fjarðarheiði is located south of the Heiðarvatn . The Seyðisfjarðarvegur S93 leads over this plateau and connects the ferry port in Seyðisfjörður with the ring road at Egilsstaðir . The road is 27 km long and rises to 620 m. It is now completely paved. Most of the road traffic over this pass is on Thursday morning in summer after the Norröna ferry arrives . Because it is not always possible to drive over this plateau, especially in winter, the Fjarðarheiðargöng is planned, a 10 km long tunnel that connects the two cities.
