The rafting museum

The Flößermuseum is a cultural and local history museum in the municipality of Lechbruck am See in the Ostallgäu district . It belongs to the Auerbergland Museum Association .

Lechbruck am See is known as a rafting village. The raftsmen brought timber or stone and building materials from the upper Lech Valley to the Augsburg area. Up until 1819 some rafts went as far as Belgrade .

The rafting museum gives visitors an insight into the history of the place and the centuries-old tradition of rafting. Numerous exhibits and a detailed exhibition give an impression of what the life of a raftsman was like.

The museum is located in a rafting house built in the middle of the 17th century. The house, owned by the municipality of Lechbruck, is a listed building and at the time of construction was a raftsman's property directly on the Lech. Today the river runs about 100 meters east of the property.
