The Flötotto Einrichtungssysteme GmbH is a German furniture - and lighting manufacturer based in North Rhine-Westphalia Gütersloh . The company was founded in 1907 in nearby Avenwedde , today the city of Gütersloh .

In addition to the FLÖTOTTO brand , the family-run Elmar Flötotto Service Holding also includes the Authentics and Sitting Bull brands .

The product range included office and school furniture until it was closed in 2007. They are widespread in the inventory of German schools and universities. Since the resumption of production in 2008, Flötotto has been manufacturing shelf and profile systems, school chairs and tables, furniture for student living as well as lights and furnishings for the kitchen and bathroom.

history

The company was originally founded in 1907 by Heinrich Flötotto in the village of Avenwedde as a furniture factory for bedroom furnishings.

After the Second World War, the company was taken over by Franz Flötotto in 1946. His brother Fritz founded the Friedrichsdorf school furniture factory and sawmill . Franz's company went bankrupt in 1978 and Fritz Flötotto expanded the range from school furniture to home furniture.

Reinhard Flötotto, Fritz's son, took over the company and began producing wooden components at an Indonesian subsidiary. The obvious suspicion of the deforestation of rainforests could never be clearly proven, but Flötotto furniture was less bought. Reinhard Flötotto sold 75% of the company to Welle Holding AG in Paderborn in 1998 . A well-known product in the 1990s was the lumibear lamp , shortly after its appearance the market was lined with plagiarism.

The company went bankrupt in June 2002 after the main investor Welle withdrew from the company. The Flötotto family then took over the company again and Hubertus Flötotto took over management. Around 110 people were employed at that time. In 2001 sales were 15 million euros.

In the following years the company made regular losses, which were offset by the Flötotto family. At the beginning of June 2007 the company had to file for bankruptcy for the second time.

The decision to finally close the company was finally made on September 4, 2007, after no investor was willing to take over the company. The last 65 employees received the notice.

In 2008 the brand was taken over by Elmar Flötotto and production of the profile system continued.

At the end of March 2019, Flötotto Systemmöbel GmbH had to file for bankruptcy.

The name Flötotto now operates in Flötotto Einrichtungssysteme GmbH based in Gütersloh. The company is now again offering the well-known Flötotto profile system and chairs.
