Flat Duo Jets was a rockabilly band from Carrboro and Chapel Hill , North Carolina . She has been a huge influence on many bands since the 1990s, including the White Stripes .

Their first album Flat Duo Jets was recorded in the late 1980s and released in the early 1990s. The band also played as the opening act for Cramps on a national tour at the time. Her ninth and last album was also her first release on a major label ( Outpost Records ). It was produced by Scott Litt , best known for producing the band REM

The singer and guitarist Dexter Romweber pursued a solo career after the band split in 1999 and performed with Cat Power , Squirrel Nut Zippers and Neko Case , among others . His older sister Sara Romweber (who is a founding member of the band Snatches of Pink ) performs with him as the Dexter Romweber Duo.

Flat Duo Jets drummer Chris "Crow" Smith released his first solo album in 2005. Bassist Tone Mayer left the Flat Duo Jets in 1990 to join the band "The Chicken Wire Gang".

Almost ten years after the band split up, a live soundtrack to "Two Headed Cow", a documentary about Dexter Romweber and the Flat Duo Jets, was released in 2008.
