Flavio Sciolè

Life

In his youth, he was mainly concerned with poetry, before finally turning to research theater, avant-garde film and performance. In 1995 he was admitted to the “Laboratorio Delle Arti Sceniche” (studio for scenic art). After several productions with the municipal theater TSA (Teatro stable d'Abruzzo) he founded the Teatro Ateo . The theater group is primarily concerned with research and ultimately focuses on antitheater, a form of experimental and absurd theater. Popular topics are suicide, madness, diversity and otherness. The dramaturgy is filled with vocal disarticulation and unconsciousness, while the body-machine tends towards epilepsy. In this way the so-called “Recitazione Inceppata” (stuttering, choppy performance) is staged, with which Sciolè compensates for and interprets the deficiencies in language, body and soul. He combines performance and acting. It deals with the production of avant-garde films (experimental film) and impresses above all with its subject matter and the complete destruction of technology. In all of his videos (with a few exceptions) he works without post-production. His filmography includes around 400 videos. His works are shown at festivals, museums and exhibitions both in Italy and around the world. During his performance he interprets the body and gives it both theatrical (through the intensive use of the voice) and compelling forms (using bandages, injuries and cuts). Cutters or glass (shards of bottles or glasses broken during the scene) are used in particular for the cuts. His live performances, which can be traced back to the most extreme body art performance, are often the subject of heated discussions. The desire aims to celebrate the rituals of art where holiness pervades the work. In the performance "Roserosse" he connects his arms and body with prickly roses.
