Balkan Cup 1947

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 9th Balkan Cup was a competition for national football teams from countries in the Balkan region . The games took place from May to October 1947 and at the same time formed the so-called "Central European Championship". This year there was no permanent host, instead each team played two home and two away games. As in the previous year , Albania , Bulgaria , Romania and Yugoslavia took part in the tournament. There was also Hungary , which was at the start for the first time. Each team played once against each opponent in group mode. The title was secured by Hungary, who won their last three games confidently and without conceding a goal after their 3-2 win at the start in Yugoslavia and also set the top scorer with Ferenc Deák (five goals). Defending champions Albania, however, lost all games this year and finished last.
