Flavoproteins

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flavoproteins (Flavinenzyme, flavoenzymes) are a widely used in animals, plants and microorganisms group of proteins , or oxidoreductases , as cofactor Flavinnukleotide ( flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), flavin mononucleotide contain (FMN)).

These are enzymes that catalyze redox reactions , with flavin serving as an electron carrier that can be reversibly oxidized and reduced.

Flavoproteins are fundamental to all processes in cell respiration , as they are involved in the corresponding electron transport chains.

Examples include succinate dehydrogenase and glucose oxidase .
