Fleckflügelbülbül

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

The Fleckflügelbülbül ( Phyllastrephus leucolepis ) was a misidentification of a bird species from the genus of the Schlankschnabelbülbüls ( Phyllastrephus ), which was "discovered" in Liberia by the German forest ecologist and ornithologist Wulf Gatter and described in 1985. In 2017, DNA analyzes showed that the only specimen known in an institution was a member of the Zeisigbülbüls ( Phyllastrephus icterinus ), whose pen drawing was unusual, which could have been due to diet.

The specimen has a body length of 15 centimeters. It is solid olive on the top; the underside of the body is pale yellow. The chest shows a faded, olive-colored stain. The yellow tips of the arm wings and the large arm covers are diagnostic.
