Les Brownlee

Les Brownlee (* 1939 ) is an American politician , colonel and was Secretary of the Army .

Military career

After attending school, she began studying at the University of Wyoming . As part of the local program, he was trained as a lieutenant in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in 1962 . He also completed a degree in business administration from the University of Alabama , which he completed with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). In the following years he also took part in training courses to become an Army Ranger as well as an infantry officer and paratrooper .

He was deployed twice during the Vietnam War . He was also a graduate of Command and General Staff College and the United States Army War College . After serving in the Ministry of Defense in 1979 , he became a military contact for the then Deputy Secretary of the Army (Under Secretary of the Army) James R. Ambrose in 1982 . In 1984 he was retired as a Colonel .

During his military career he received several awards such as the " Silver Star " , the " Bronze Star " and the " Purple Heart " wound badge .

US Senate official

After his military career, he was Assistant National Security to Virginia Senator John Warner from January 1984 to 1986 .

He then joined the Republican Senators of South Carolina Strom Thurmond and Virginia John Warner in January 1987 , both of whom were members of the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services . As such, he was responsible for army and naval programs, special forces, and drug control. Most recently, he was Deputy Chief of Staff of the Committee and in this role he was closely involved in the planning of missile defense programs, strategic deterrence and naval strategies, shipbuilding and naval weapons programs.

After nine years as an employee, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Senate Committee by the then committee chairman Thurmond in March 1996. He held this office from January 1999 to November 2001 under Thurmond's successor as committee chairman, John Warner.

Secretary of the Army under President Bush

On November 14, 2001, President George W. Bush appointed him Deputy Secretary of the Army. In April 2002 he also became Acting Assistant to the Army Minister for Civil Works (Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works)).

After Thomas E. White resigned on April 25, 2003, he took over the post of acting Minister of the Army on May 10, 2003 due to his previous function . He held this office until his resignation on December 2, 2004.

On April 4, 2005, he became a member of the board of directors of the aerospace and defense company EADS North America . In March 2006, he became one of thirteen Commissioners on the National Guard and Reserves .

He is currently President of Les Brownlee & Associates LLC .
