Career

Stanley Rogers Resor was born in New York City on December 5, 1917, the son of Stanley Resor (president of the JW Thompson Advertising Agency and one of the founders of the modern advertising industry). Resor went after visiting the Groton School at the Yale University , just like his father before him, who in 1901 received his doctorate there. He received his PhD from Yale in 1939. He then went to Yale Law School , where he met with Sargent Shriver , Gerald Ford and Cyrus Vance (who was Secretary of the United States Army before him ). Resor's training was interrupted by serving as an officer in World War II, where he was awarded a Silver Star , Bronze Star, and Purple Heart .

After the war he went to Wall Street to work and became a partner in the prominent Debevoise firm. During the Vietnam War in 1965, promoted President Lyndon Johnson him to the Defense Minister ( Secretary of the Army ). Resor remained in this office until under President Richard Nixon 1971. 1984 he was awarded the United States Military Academy Sylvanus Thayer Award awarded.

Over time, his criticism of US policy on nuclear weapons grew. He was also a member and spokesman for the Arms Control Association of America in 1997 when the rebellious NATO was expanding into Eastern Europe , based on concerns about the Russian government's response to the alleged attack by NATO.
