Elvis Jacob Stahr junior (born March 9, 1916 in Hickman, Kentucky , † November 11, 1998 in Greenwich, Connecticut ) was an American politician, Secretary of the Army and college president.

Career

Stahr was a professor at the University of Kentucky College of Law . Over time, he became the dean of that college and president of West Virginia University . Between 1961 and 1962, Stahr was Secretary of the United States Army under President John F. Kennedy . After his tenure he went to Indiana University , where he became its president. In addition, Stahr was chairman of the National Audubon Society between 1968 and 1979 .

Elvis Jacob Stahr Jr. died on November 11, 1998 at the age of 82.
