Jürgen Mittag (born March 14, 1970 in Hilden ) is a German political scientist , historian and professor of sports policy at the German Sport University in Cologne .

Life

From 1992 Jürgen Mittag studied Middle and Modern History , Political Science and German at the Universities of Cologne , Oxford and Bonn . He graduated in 1997 with the Master of Arts and was a thesis on 1999 Wilhelm Keil doctorate .

From 1997 he was initially a research assistant at the Department of Political Science and European Issues at the University of Cologne, from 2003 to 2010 scientific director of the Institute for Social Movements at the Ruhr University Bochum and director of the Library of the Ruhr Area Foundation ( House of the History of the Ruhr Area ). Since 2011 he has been Professor of Sports Policy and Head of the Institute for European Sport Development and Leisure Research at the German Sport University Cologne. Also in 2011 his chair was selected as a Jean Monnet chair .

His main fields of research include not only sports policy and European integration but also political parties and social movements as well as tourism and leisure.

Jürgen Mittag is chairman of the Bochum district association of the European Union Germany . He was a member of the historical commission of the SPD party executive .
