Tele-Aid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TELE AID is the emergency call and assistance system from Mercedes-Benz . It was first used in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W 140) from 1996. Currently (as of 2009) Tele Aid is only available in the North American markets of the USA and Canada after it disappeared from the other markets in 2005.

Tele Aid is implemented using a factory-installed telephone and GPS system. With redundant telephone antennas, its own audio system and direct wiring to the airbag control unit, the system is designed so that it is still functional even after serious accidents. The GPS system transmits the geographic coordinates to the service center via SMS when triggered. In addition, data on vehicle type, color and seat occupancy are also transmitted. The service center now makes voice contact with the vehicle occupants and - if necessary - alerts the necessary emergency services ( ambulance , police , fire brigade or breakdown help). The service center is staffed 24 hours a day of the year.
