Flip and flop

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flip And Flop is a computer game designed by Jim Nangano and published by First Star Software for the Atari 800 in 1983 and for the Commodore 64 in 1984 .

Overview

Flip And Flop is a kind of Pac-Man in isometric graphics on levels that are connected by ladders. You alternately control Flip, a kangaroo that jumps around on the plains, and Mitch, a monkey that hangs along the plains from below. A guard tries to catch Flip, and a net chases Mitch. There are adhesive fields on which the guards and the net can be lured and on which they are then stuck for a few seconds. If you run over the edge, you fall off the field and lose a life, just like if you get caught. Fields already revealed in this level, however, remain revealed. The aim is to run through all the marked fields and thus uncover them. Every five levels there is a cutscene with a small circus performance.

It is scrolled when the game character approaches the edge of the screen. In level 13 the maximum size of the playing field is reached, later fields have to be revealed twice, and even later there are no more adhesive fields in the level.

Reviews

"Nevertheless, it must be said that 'Flip and Flop' from First Star Software is clearly the best representative of this genre on the Commodore 64 compared to 'Juice!', 'Slinkey' and 'Q-Bert' (there is also an Atari Version) is. "
