Florencio Varela is a city in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area in Argentina . It is the capital of the Partido Florencio Varela administrative district , which borders the Argentine capital to the southeast . On January 30, 1891, it was founded as a settlement by Juan de la Cruz Contreras. The city is named after the Argentine author and journalist Florencio Varela.
