Florentijn Hofman
Florentijn Hofman (born April 16, 1977 in Delfzijl ) is a Dutch artist.
biography
Florentijn Hofman attended the Christelijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten (Christian Academy of Fine Arts) in Kampen (Netherlands) (today's name: ArtEZ Art & Design Zwolle ), which he graduated in 2000 . He then attended the master’s course at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . He lives and works in Arnhem .

Examples of his works, which mainly deal with oversized animal-shaped art installations, include a 31 meter long muskrat made of straw, a 12 meter high shepherd dog made of bales of straw and 210 starlings made of paper, which were exhibited at the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam . Another work is the blue-colored demolished houses in Rotterdam or wooden sculptures based on concert grand pianos on the beach in Schiermonnikoog , which should look as if they had just been washed up. In Arnhem there is a 30-meter-long “party aardvark ” (“Feestaardvarken”) made of (hollow) shotcrete , which was installed there in 2013 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Burgers' Zoo .
Internationally known Hofman was with his rubber duck , an enlarged to gigantic version of the yellow Quietscheentchens . This inflatable artwork was made between 2007 and 2014 in various sizes. First exhibited in 2007 in a size of 26 meters in Saint-Nazaire , more than two dozen other exhibits followed. The smallest of these sculptures, only five meters high, was exhibited in Nuremberg in spring 2008 . It was the only one of these works of art in German-speaking countries. The ducks were destroyed after the exhibition. Occasionally, handbags were then made and sold from the PVC material. This made it possible to contribute to the financing of the respective project, which otherwise came from donations from sponsoring and funds from the respective local cultural funding. According to the artist, these ducks have healing properties. They are designed as apolitical beings and can help to resolve global tensions.
