Florida Current

The Florida Current is a warm ocean current along the southeast coast of the US state of Florida .

It is the continuation of the Caribbean current , flows through the Florida Strait between Florida and Cuba in an easterly direction and then turns northeast between Florida and the Bahamas . North of the Bahamas, it joins the Antilles Stream to form the Gulf Stream .

It is part of the large Atlantic current ring consisting of the Portugal Current, the Canary Current, the North Equatorial Current, the Antilles Current, the Florida Current, the Gulf Stream and the Northeast Atlantic Current.

The Florida flow carries about 32 · 10 6 m 3 of water per second (32 sv ), at a speed of 1.8 m / s.
