The Florida Strait is a 100 to 200 km wide strait between the US state of Florida on the one hand and Cuba in the south or the Bahamas in the southeast on the other. It connects the Gulf of Mexico with the Atlantic Ocean .

The Florida Current , a warm ocean current that flows northeast through the Florida Strait , is the main tributary of the Gulf Stream .
