Flotte Bursche is a one-act operetta by Franz von Suppè from 1863. The libretto is by Josef Braun.

The story takes place among students in Heidelberg. In front of an inn, the students celebrate “with the full bottle despite the empty pocket”. They send the boot-cleaner Fleck away to get some money. He comes back and reports on his diverse and successful attempts, in part in this early operetta with formulations that are taken up decades later in other master operettas (“The whole faculty seeks my services early and late”, “The Count of Luxembourg wasted all its money ”). Then Anton, a craftsman, and Lieschen, a town girl step in and complain about their fate: Anton has to go on a journey because his guardian, Hieronymus Geier, does not want to pay him his inherited fortune, with which he could have married Lieschen. Three students, who overheard the two of them, decide to help them, especially since said guardian Geier had already attracted attention in the story of the stain. The student Brand poses as an Italian painter and offers the vulture a bad picture of Madame Potiphar as a precious antique. The student Frinke and boot cleaner Fleck arrive as an English lord and his servant, "recognize" the picture as an Italian masterpiece and claim to want to buy it for 1000 thalers. Geier bought the picture from Brand for 700 thalers and afterwards found out that the students had cheated on him. Lieschen and Anton receive the money for their wedding.

Today only the overture to this operetta is known, which Suppé compiled from student songs which he listed. No recordings are known of the music titles for the work composed by Suppè himself, so that one has to rely on reviews of that time for the assessment. B. that of the intermediate act: “The musical illustration of the text has melody and humor… There is an element of cheerfulness in the operetta, which is a certain overabundance before which Mr. Suppé should be more careful, breaks through victoriously ... "
