Floyd Davis
Floyd Eldon Davis (born March 5, 1909 in Oakford , Illinois , † May 31, 1977 in Indianapolis ) was an American racing car driver .
Career
Floyd Davis won the Indianapolis 500 mile race in 1941 without running a single mile. Davis started for Lou Moore's team and his much faster team-mate Mauri Rose had problems with the spark plugs of his Maserati after 60 laps and had to give up the race. After 72 laps Rose took over the Wetteroth - Offenhauser from Davis and drove it to a clear victory.
Davis made his debut in the 500-mile race in 1937 and competed four times. His best position driving alone was 15th in 1937.
