The Aeropuerto Internacional de Artigas ( IATA airport code : ATI - ICAO airport code: SUAG) is an airport in Uruguay .

It lies west of the city of Artigas in the department of Artigas in the north of Uruguay near the border with Brazil .

Incidents

On February 10, 1978, the worst aviation accident in the history of Uruguay occurred at the airport when a TAMU aircraft of the type Douglas DC-3 / C-47A ( aircraft registration number ) with 44 people (6 crew members, 38 passengers) CX-BJH ) with the destination Montevideo crashed shortly after take-off two kilometers from the airport and went up in flames. There were no survivors of the accident.
