The Gao International Airport (also Gao International Airport , ICAO code : GAGO , IATA code : GAQ ) is a commercial airports in Mali in the City Gao . It is located in the eastern part of the country, about five kilometers from the eastern bank of the Niger . The only runway (07/25) is paved and 2500 meters long and 45 meters wide. The terminal was badly damaged in a bomb attack in 2016. After that there were no more civil flights. In autumn 2018, Gao u. a. served by Air Algérie and Tunisair .
Incidents
- On July 24, 1951, a Douglas DC-3-455 of Sabena (OO-CBA) suffered an engine failure and an engine fire during take-off from Gao Airport, Mali . During a return curve at the lowest altitude, the tip of the wing touched the ground, whereupon the impact and fire occurred. The piloting of the aircraft was made even more difficult by hydraulic fluid spraying into the cockpit. All three crew members of the cargo flight died, the aircraft was destroyed (see also the Sabena flight accident near Gao ) .
