Tunisair (originally Tunis Air , completely Société Tunisienne de l'Air -TUNISAIR- , Arabic الخطوط التونسية al-chututṭ al-tūnisiya ) is the national airline of Tunisia , based in Tunis and based at Tunis Airport . She is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization .

The airline was founded on October 21, 1948 by the Tunisian government and Air France and began operations on April 1, 1949. In 1957 Air France minimized its stake, making Tunisia the largest shareholder. The company has been listed on the Tunis Stock Exchange since July 1995 . In the meantime (as of March 2015) the Tunisian state still holds 64.86% of the shares, Air France 5.58% and the rest is in the hands of institutional and private investors.

The company is also a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization . Tunisair Express is a subsidiary and Tunisair held a 51% stake in Mauritania Airways .

In the long term, the Boeing 737 aircraft will be replaced by aircraft from the Airbus A320 family . There are also plans to fly to new destinations in Canada , China and the United States , which will require new long-haul aircraft. For this reason, Tunisair ordered new Airbus A330-200s in April 2008 . On June 9, 2015, the first of three A330-200s was delivered to Tunisair.

At the beginning of 2017, Elyes Mnakbi succeeded Sarra Rejeb, who took over the management of SNCFT , in the management of the company .

Destinations

Tunisair serves more than 40 destinations with scheduled flights and others with charter flights , also for German tour operators . In Germany there are flights to Berlin , Düsseldorf , Frankfurt , Hamburg and Munich . In Austria Vienna is on the flight plan and in Switzerland it is Basel , Geneva and Zurich . Further destinations are offered by the subsidiary Tunisair Express .
