Yemenia - Yemen Airways ( Arabic الخطوط الجوية اليمنية al-Chuṭūṭ al-dschawwiyya al-yamaniyya ) is the national airline of Yemen based in Sanaa and based at Sanaa airport . She is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization .

history

A first Yemeni airline was founded in the late 1940s for then-King Ahmad ibn Yahya . From this, today's company was constituted as Yemen Airlines on August 4, 1961 , and began flight operations in 1962. After a reorganization, it was renamed Yemen Airways and made a national airline. On July 1, 1978, it became a joint company of the Yemeni Arab Republic (now the Republic of Yemen) and Saudi Arabia.

The former South Yemeni airline Alyemda , based in Aden, was absorbed into Yemenia in February 1996 . Yemenia is now 51% owned by the Republic of Yemen and 49% by Saudi Arabia . Since October 26, 2008, all domestic flights have been operated by Felix Airways .

Flight operations were suspended at the end of March 2015 due to the unrest surrounding Operation Storm of Resolve until further notice and resumed in May 2015 with a reduced route network. The three A330-200s were returned to the lessors in July 2011 and June 2015, respectively.
