The airport Aéroport international Prince Said Ibrahim (Traditional Moroni Hahaya called) is the only international airport of the Comoros . It is located on the western coast of the main island Grande Comore about 18 kilometers north of the capital Moroni . It is named after Prince Saïd Ibrahim Ben Ali .
Location and layout
Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport has a relatively new terminal. In the terminal there are counters for the post office and for lost luggage as well as various purchase options for refreshments. There are no exchange offices.
The airport is the largest in the Comoros and has regular scheduled services with the other two main islands. In addition, numerous airlines fly to Moroni, which connect the airport with Madagascar, other islands in the region and the African mainland. In addition, because of the French-influenced history for z. B. Migrant workers and government representatives realized important destinations Paris and other French cities with transfer connections via the Yemenia or Ethiopian network.
Incidents
Between 1968 and 2016 there were four total aircraft losses in the area of Moroni-Hahaya Airport. A total of 185 people were killed in three of them.
- On 30 June 2009, a crashed Airbus A310-324 of the Yemenia (7O-ADJ) with 153 people on board in the Indian Ocean. During the approach to landing at Moroni-Hahaya airport, there was a stall , with the machine crashing into the sea around 15 kilometers from the main island of Grande Comore. There was one survivor (see Yemenia Flight 626 ) .
