The Asmara Airport is the largest airport of Eritrea and adjacent to the Airport Massawa the only international airport in the country. Because of this, Asmara Airport is also used for military purposes.
It is served by the following major airlines: Egypt Air , Eritrean Airlines , FlyDubai , Sudan Airways and Turkish Airlines . As part of the political reconciliation between Eritrea and Ethiopia, Ethiopian Airlines has been flying to Asmara Airport again since July 2018.
Incidents
Between 1946 and 2016, 10 total aircraft losses occurred at Asmara Airport. Two of them killed a total of 64 people.
- On August 1, 2001 rolled over Boeing 727-200 of the Yemenia (flag 7O-ACW ) when landing the end of the wet, 3000 m long runway and collided with a large concrete block. The machine was a total economic loss. All 111 inmates survived.
