The Tunis-Carthage International Airport , officially Aéroport International de Tunis-Carthage , formerly El Aouina Airport is an international airport in Tunis , Tunisia .
The airport in the Tunisian capital has a capacity of 5,000,000 passengers per year. It is an aviation hub for the domestic airlines Tunisair , Tunisair Express , Nouvelair and Tunisavia .
The airport was named after Carthage , the ancient city and current suburb of Tunis.
Incidents
From 1943 to October 2017 there were 5 total losses of aircraft at Tunis Airport and its vicinity. 20 people were killed. Example:
- On May 7, 2002, occupied with 55 passengers and ten crew members made Boeing 737-500 of Egyptair to the air vehicle registration SU-GBI en route from Cairo to Tunis six kilometers outside the airport a crash landing. 11 of the 56 passengers and three of the six crew members died in the accident (see also Egyptair flight 843 ) .
