The Kōchi Airport ( Jap. 高知空港 , Kōchi Kuko too), Ryoma Airport Kōchi ( 高知龍馬空港 called), a Regional's airport the Japanese city of Nankoku . It is located about 15 kilometers east of the city of Kōchi . According to Japanese law, Kōchi Airport is classified as a 2nd class airport .

history

The airport was built in 1944 as an airfield for the Japanese Imperial Navy. 1945 to 1952 he was under the command of the US armed forces. In 1952 the airfield became a civilian airport and started regular operations in 1954.

In November 2003, the airport became the first in Japan to be named after a person, namely after the samurai and pioneer of the Meiji restoration Sakamoto Ryōma .
