The Mandalay Airport ( Mandalay International Airport ) is an international airport the Southeast Asian country Myanmar and an international two airports in the country. It has the IATA code MDL and the ICAO code VYMD .

The airport, which opened in September 2000, is located 45 km south of the city of Mandalay at an altitude of 91 m and has a runway (17/35, concreted) with a length of 4268 m.

The airport infrastructure includes, for example, 36 check-in counters , eight boarding gates , six passenger boarding bridges , three baggage conveyor belts , etc. Landings are also possible using an instrument landing system. The facilities are designed for Boeing 747s .

Mandalay Chanmyathazi Airport was shut down as a result of the new building. Construction costs were $ 150 million.

Expansion into a turnstile

Myanmar's government, which is gradually opening the country to international companies, is looking for investors for a public-private partnership to develop the airport into an aviation hub . The investors are to modernize the terminals and take over air cargo handling, maintenance and other tasks.
