The Mbala Airport (IATA: MMQ, ICAO: FLBA) serves the city of Mbala in the Northern Province of Zambia . The airport is located around three kilometers west of the city center on the site of the Samora Machel Airbase , an air force base of the Zambian Air Force. On April 10, 2015, the Zambian President Edgar Lungu released the air force base for joint use by civil and commercial flights, in order to strengthen tourism in the northern province. The paved runway is 2600 m long.
