The Northern Province ( English Northern Province ) of the Republic of Zambia is one of the ten provinces of the country. It has 1,105,824 inhabitants (2010 census) and covers 77,650 km².
The northern province is divided into 12 districts with Kasama as the provincial capital and is known as Zambia's Wild North . The TAZARA and the Tanzam Highway run through here, but both give little economic impetus due to the conditions of the cargo handling in the port of Dar-es-Salaam and are also too little alone to develop the province, the rest of the road network is miserable. Numerous development projects try to create an economic basis for people here, with tourism appearing to be the most promising sector alongside coffee. Geographical features of the province are Lake Tanganyika , Lake Bangweul and Lake Mweru Wantipa, as well as a number of Kalungwishi waterfalls : the Lumangwe Falls , the Chishimba Falls and the Kalambo Falls . There is also the North Luangwa National Park and the Luambe National Park in the valley of the Luangwa River in the east of the province.
