The New Tanegashima Airport ( Jap. 新種子島空港 , Shin-Kuko Tanegashima ) is a small commercial airport in the municipality of Nakatane on the island of Tanegashima in Japan , Kagoshima Prefecture . The airport is about 11 kilometers northeast of the city center. From here there are currently (2009) only domestic connections. New Tanegashima Airport is a 3rd class airport according to Japanese law .
The airport is also known regionally as Tanegashima Airport .
