The Syamsudin Noor Airport ( Indonesian Bandara Syamsudin Noor , IATA : BDJ , ICAO : WAOO ) is the airport of Banjarmasin , the capital of the Indonesian province of Kalimantan Selatan . It is located in the subdistrict ( Kecamatan ) Landasan Ulin in the district ( Kabupaten ) Banjarbaru about 25 km southwest of the Banjarmasin. The last expansion of the airport was completed in 2004 and allows it to accommodate four medium and four short-haul aircraft. In terms of the number of passengers, it is the eighth largest airport in Indonesia, despite the lack of international flight connections.
history
Syamsuddin Noor Airport was built in 1936 during the Dutch colonial era under the name Lapangan Terbang ( German airfield ) Ulin. In 1944 the Japanese occupation government expanded the airfield to a length of 2220 meters and a width of 45 meters. After the airfield was destroyed by bombing in World War II , the Dutch colonial administration ( NICA ) had the runway reinforced with stones. After the takeover by the Indonesian Civil Aviation Office, the airfield was expanded into a civil airport that a Fokker F28 could land on.
On April 9, 1970, the airport was renamed after the local aviation pioneer, Lieutenant Syamsudin Noor.
In 1977 the Ministry of Transport built the current runway 80 meters north of the old one, which enabled a DC-9 to land .
