The Tengchong Tuofeng Airport ( Chinese  騰衝駝峰機場  /  腾冲驼峰机场 , Pinyin Tengchong Tuofeng Jīchǎng , English Tengchong Tuofeng Airport ) is the airport of the circle Tengchong in the Chinese province of Yunnan . The airport opened in April 2009. It is near Tuofeng Village ( 駝峰 駝峰  /  驼峰 村 ) in Qingshui Township ( 清水 鄉  /  清水 乡 ).

history

Construction work on the airport began in January 2008. In addition to the improved infrastructure of Tengchong, this was also due to the promotion of tourism in the region. It was hoped that the construction would attract more tourists to the region. In addition, they wanted to commemorate the construction of the " Tuofeng Air Route " ( 駝峰 航線  /  驼峰 航线 , Tuófēng Hángxiàn ), also known in the West under the name " The Hump ", an air corridor that played a significant role in preventing the Second World War a takeover by the Japanese. It was planned to start operations at the end of 2008, authorities of Tengchong County, where the community of Qingshui, whose village is named Tuofeng, is located, spoke when the construction project was announced in the second half of 2006 that the opening date would be November 21, 2008 The price should amount to about 420 to 430 million yuan, the equivalent of about 55 million US dollars.

In terms of architecture, the airport should be a regional airport and be designed for a capacity of 480,000 passengers a year.

However, the airport's opening was delayed due to construction problems. At the end of 2008 there was talk of an opening in May of the following year (2009). The opening finally took place in spring 2010.

At the end of 2010 it was announced that the airport plans to start an expansion program in 2011. The plans envisage expanding the airport's only runway from 2,350 to 3,000 meters by 2013 and building a second 30,000 square meter terminal.

Connection

The airport is connected to the center of Tengchong by an expressway. The expressway was built for the airport and cost approximately $ 8.2 million in construction, which was borne by Tengchong County. Originally, the construction costs were supposed to cost 7.9 million US dollars. The road bears the name " Feihu Dadao " ( 飛虎 大道  /  飞虎 大道 , Fēihǔ Dàdào  - "Flying Tigers Main Road"), which also connects to the "Tuofeng Air Route" ( 駝峰 航線  /  驼峰 航线 , Tuófēng Hángxiàn ) in the second To remember world war.

Ownership

The airport is 46 percent owned by the Yunnan Airports Group ( 雲南 機場 集團  /  云南 机场 集团 , Yúnnán Jīchǎng Jítuán ) and 40 percent by the Yunnan Guangfang Group ( 雲南 官 房 集團  /  云南 官 房 集团 , Yúnnán Guānfáng Jítuán ) and ten percent in the hands of the Tengchong County Government. The rest is in free float.

Destinations

Currently, the airport is only served directly from the provincial capital of Yunnan, Kunming . The flight time is around 50 minutes and replaces a 12-hour bus journey. Direct flights to Lijiang and Jinghong are being planned.

Surname

In addition to the name " Tengchong-Tuofeng ", the airport and its access road have also been nicknamed the Hump in memory of the Hump . The Hump , also known as the Tuofeng Air Route ( 駝峰 航線  /  驼峰 航线 , Tuófēng Hángxiàn ), was an airlift from India to Tengchong, which largely saved China from being completely seized by Japan by supplying it with war essentials.
