The airfield Schmerlat ( ICAO code LSPF ) is a gliding field in the communities Neunkirch and Löhningen in Canton Schaffhausen . The airfield is the only airfield in the canton and at the same time the northernmost in Switzerland .

history

The airfield has been operated by the Schaffhausen glider group, founded in 1933, since then.

Incidents

On the evening of August 27, 2016, a single-engine Robin DR 400 machine ( aircraft registration HB-EQN ) crashed there shortly after take-off. Four people were injured and around 80 rescue workers were on duty. One of the injured died in hospital two weeks later.
