Fluorescence Loss in Photobleaching
As fluorescence loss in photobleaching ( FLIP ) refers to a method of microbiology to detect the fluidity of biological membranes .
functionality
Surface proteins on cells are labeled with fluorescence-marked antibodies and the fluorescence activity is determined photometrically in a defined area . At the same time, there is a spatially separated continuous laser irradiation that destroys the fluorescence in the irradiated area ( see photo bleaching ). As a result, the fluorescence in the measuring range also decreases, which is explained by the mobility of the surface proteins in the membrane ( liquid mosaic model ).
Fluorescence Recovery after Photobleaching ( FRAP ) is based on a similar principle .
