FluxBB is PHP -based free software for providing an Internet forum . According to the manufacturer, the goal is to be less graphics-intensive, better output-optimized and therefore faster than other Internet forums. When developing FluxBB, priority was given to the most important functions of an Internet forum. Starting with FluxBB version 1.3, additional functions could be integrated as extensions.

According to the manufacturer, FluxBB outputs semantically correct XHTML and CSS .

Functions

The standard design from FluxBB is called Air

  • Semantically correct and valid XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS 2.1, from version 1.5.6 HTML5
  • Supports MySQL , PostgreSQL and SQLite 2
  • Full UTF-8 support (from version 1.4)
  • Easy to translate
  • One-click installable extensions (target for version 2.0)
  • New designs can be installed with one click
  • Distributed under the GNU General Public License

FluxBB 1.3, which did not get beyond the development stage, added a new one-click expansion system to the range of functions, which gave users the ability to easily expand the functionality. Version 1.3 also improved markup and CSS .

history

FluxBB is a spin-off from PunBB that was originally developed by Rickard Andersson. In 2007 the name PunBB was sold to a private company and the software was further developed under Andersson's leadership. In April 2008, however, Rickard Andersson announced a longer break.

So the remaining development team decided on May 9th, 2008 to split off from PunBB and to continue this project independently under the name FluxBB.

The FluxBB developer Connor announced on January 10th, 2009 a change in the FluxBB development strategy. The version branch 1.2 should now be maintained under the version number 1.4 and expanded by functions from FluxBB 1.3, while the future version 2.0 should be developed on the basis of FluxBB 1.3. In 2015 it became known that this plan was abandoned in favor of a merger with the forum software Flarum. A FluxBB 2.0 will no longer exist.
