The Flying-M Ranch is owned by hotel chain owner and billionaire Barron Hilton about 100 km south of Reno , Nevada . It has an airfield that is the base for many gliding competitions . The mountains of the Sierra Nevada , which are over 4,000 m high, and the desert offer ideal updrafts. In a hangar there are around a dozen historic aircraft that are still airworthy. The runway is 5500  feet  by 45 feet (1676  m  by 14 m). The ranch covers approximately 2,200 km² in Nevada and California.

The winners of the Barron Hilton Cup will be invited to the ranch for a week.
