The Focke-Achgelis Fa 225 was a German towed gyroplane from the manufacturer Focke-Achgelis .
history
Contrary to Henrich Focke's personal attitude , the Reich Ministry of Aviation considered a towed gyroplane to be extremely promising and awarded a corresponding development contract to Focke-Achgelis. The design and construction took just seven weeks. The Fa 225 was towed for the first time on September 27, 1941 by a Junkers Ju 52 / 3m . However, it turned out to be of practically no use, which is why development was discontinued.
construction
Henrich Focke relied on the normal hull of a DFS 230 cargo ship. A rotor from a Fa 223 was placed on top of this. The rotor axis was laid under the fuselage and ended in a cable drum. A rope was wound up here, the end of which was anchored to the ground before take-off. When the model was pulled up by the tow plane, an initial number of revolutions was achieved, which then increased to the number of revolutions required for take-off by the airflow.
