Foal squad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Foal command refers to a method of training young horses that is rarely used .

method

In the foal command, the horse teacher takes advantage of the fact that foals and younger horses have the urge to follow a leader. Usually the position of leader is taken over by an older animal. If a group consists exclusively of young animals, the horse , which takes on the role first, is usually the lead animal . So it is not the strength of the animal, but only the early point in time of the "seizure of power" that is decisive. In the foal command, the foals are separated from the mother very early, and the human trainer takes over the position of the lead animal. Thus, through his authority in the group, he can influence the other animals in his educational sense. The problem with the foal command is that each foal reacts differently to taking over the command. Some animals react more to acoustic, some more to physical influence. The trainer must therefore change his behavior towards the foal at short notice if he notices that the current form of influence is not accepted by the animal.

history

The foal commando was developed in the early 20th century and had its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s. After that, its use waned more and more, also because it was felt that separating the young from their mother animals was not appropriate to the species. Sun declined horse whisperer Monty Roberts the foal command from consistently. Jean Francois Pignon , a French horse breeder , tried one last time in the early 1990s to use the foal command in a new, more animal-friendly form. But he gave up his project because he noticed that a foal command in a weakened form is hardly promising. Nowadays there are no known cases of use of the foal command, so that knowledge about it is steadily dwindling.
