Fond in connection with porcelain is the technical term for the large-area background painting.

The first funds go back to the porcelain from the time of the Chinese emperors of the Qing dynasty , Kangxi (1661–1722) and Yongzheng (1723–1735). Meissen porcelain was decorated with a fond by Johann Gregorius Höroldt .

In today's production, the fond is applied to larger areas of the porcelain with a spray gun .
