Samuel Wittwer

Samuel Wittwer (born March 18, 1967 in Langenthal , Switzerland ) is a Swiss art scholar and porcelain expert. He is director of the Palaces and Collections department of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG).

Life

Samuel Wittwer studied art history, folklore and general history of the Middle Ages at the University of Basel from 1987 to 1994 . During his studies, from 1990 to 1994, he completed an accompanying training course in the Basel Atelier B. Langloh as a restorer for ceramic materials and glass . Wittwer had already learned porcelain painting during his school days .

From 1995 to 1997, Samuel Wittwer was a research assistant at the Basel Historical Museum . In 1998/99 he was a research fellow for young scientists from the Swiss National Science Foundation .

Samuel Wittwer has been curator of the ceramic collections at the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG) in the Charlottenburg Belvedere pavilion since September 1, 1999, and in this role he also oversees the KPM porcelain collection of the State of Berlin and the historical archive of the royal family Porcelain Manufactory Berlin (KPM).

In February 2000, he was with a thesis on the animal sculpture of Meissen porcelain for the Japanese Palace Augustus the Strong in Dresden doctorate .

On December 1, 2008, Samuel Wittwer was appointed director of the Palaces and Collections department of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG ).

Wittwer is also a board member of the Pauls Eisenbeiss Foundation , Basel. Samuel Wittwer became known to a larger television audience as a consultant porcelain expert for the show Kunst und Krempel on Bavarian television .
