The Fondazione Pro Musica e Arte Sacra was founded in 2002 in Rome , Italy by Hans-Albert Courtial and has the purpose of promoting sacred art and music and contributing to their preservation. This is done, for example, by organizing the Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra , a festival that is organized every year in the papal basilicas of Rome and the Vatican and whose orchestra in residence is the Vienna Philharmonic .

Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra

The festival has been held annually in Rome since 2002, and in 2008 even in the presence of Pope Benedict XVI.

Bruckner cycle

In 2018 the Fondazione started the Bruckner project on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birthday of the Austrian composer Anton Bruckner (1824–1896). In the course of this project, the Vienna Philharmonic will play all nine completed Bruckner symphonies in important basilicas and cathedrals in Europe by 2024.

The 1st Bruckner Symphony was held in St. Florian (Austria) in 2018 , followed by Berlin and Rome in 2019.
