For Every Man There's a Woman is a song by Harold Arlen (music) and Leo Robin released in 1948.

Arlen and Robin wrote For Every Man There's a Woman for the literary adaptation Casbah, directed by John Berry . The song was featured in the film by Tony Martin , who sings it while dancing to his film partner Marta Toren . The song then received an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1949 .

The first two lines of the song read: For every man there's a woman / For every life there's a plan .

On December 2, 1947 the song was recorded by the Benny Goodman Orchestra with the band vocalist Peggy Lee for Capitol Records (C 15030); B-side was the song On a Slow Boat to China . Both Tony Martin and Benny Goodman were represented with the song in the charts; the latter came in at # 25. For Every Man There's a Woman was recorded in numerous cover versions from the late 1940s , including a. by Frank Sinatra , Hoagy Carmichael , Harry James , Tex Beneke , Bill Darnell , George Shearing , Mal Waldron , Sammy Davis junior . Tal Farlow , Pearl Bailey , Ethel Ennis and Sarah Vaughan .
