Dell Force10 Networks
Dell Force10 Networks , formerly Force10 Networks , nCore Networks , is an American manufacturer of 10 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet network equipment. The company is a subsidiary of Dell and has offices in North America, Europe and the Asian Pacific coast.
The company was named by its founder Som Sikhdar - an enthusiastic seaman - after the wind force 10 (severe storm) on the Beaufort scale for wind speeds. This should clarify the product focus on 10 Gigabit network products.
Products
In January 2002, Force10 Networks released the E1200 switch , which at the time was the only one in the industry to offer 10 Gigabit Ethernet switching. Force10 hopes to be able to use its good reputation thanks to high efficiency and reliability in high-class network technology to gain a foothold in medium-sized data centers and company networks.
In 2007 the company was working on a 100 Gigabit Ethernet switch.
Force10 Networks uses NetBSD as the basis for their operating system FTOS (Force10 Operating System). The company made a 2007 donation to the NetBSD Foundation to support further research and the open development community.
